Port Melbourne was the backdrop for the latest Photoh - Melbourne Photography Group session with the topic - Shadows and Sunsets. We met at 4.30pm at Beaconsfeild Station and began the session exploring Port Melbourne and its interesting afternoon shadows. We also explored the area to source the best locations to shoot the sunset. I was drawn to Princes Pier - the old pier, where the pylons still remain jutting out of the water. The setting sun bathed the pillars in a warm glow, the reflections left a watercolur painting effect and the silohuettes contrasted up against the warm glow of the sun setting.
The pier was contructed between 1912 and 1915 by the Melbourne Harbour Trust to supplement the adjacent Station Pier. From 1915 until 1969 it was the major arrival point for new migrants.
